It seems like everywhere you look the fashion industry is accepting bloggers as legitimate sources of inspiration...and advertising. All my favorite fashion bloggers are sponsored by top names in design (get invites to Fashion Week, wear free clothes, etc.) because of their personal style. I think it's great! There's just one thing missing.
Color.
The fashion/beauty blogging world is very...White. Or maybe it just seems white to me because I'm not in "the loop." Yes, there are some bloggers of Asian descent, which is cool, but...where are the Black girls?
My goals for 2012 are not only to increase The Feisty House's presence on the style "scene," but also bring other Black style blogs to people's attention. That's where you come in =)
Faithful Feisties, I need your help to discover the best Black style bloggers out there! If you happen to be one, then I want to feature YOU on The Feisty House. I want to take the month of February to big up stylish Black women that are doing it big in the blogosphere...or not so big! It doesn't matter. If you know a blogger that needs to be recognized, or you're a blogger that wants to be featured, please send me an email or hit me up on twitter!
Get your nominations in by January 31st. I can't wait to explore all these new blogs!

Good question! I'll admit I've wondered the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI've also wondered how many top name sponsors/fashion houses actually contact bloggers, or are the bloggers themselves reach out? There must be some work/effort involved, no?
...maybe I'm not in the "loop" either.
Your feature is a neat idea! I'll be emailing you shortly.
Here is a list!

I do (occasionally) feature some fashion posts, but I'll admit - quality is not where I'd like it to be. Here are some AWESOME black bloggers, with top quality blogs, and styles to tote:

There are two black fashion bloggers I follow regularly (other than yours, of course!) --
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ciaafrique.com/
http://curvygeekery.blogspot.com/
Both cater to the curvaceous woman, which is another aspect of fashion you can find if you search a little harder for it (curvy AND black). And of course, there's Afrobella, blogging queen, though her site is more all-in-one, not solely fashion. Great post, btw!
There are quite a few black fashion bloggers:
ReplyDeleteMonroe Steele of Fashion Steele NYC was recently featured in Glamour magazine
Eboni of The Fashionista Next Door hosted a party for Sole Society in Atlanta
Folake Huntoon of Style Pantry is beyond AMAZING!
Channing of Channing the City has her own blog but also writes for the Glamazons (another black style and beauty blog)
Tamu McPherson (of JA'can heritage) lives in Italy, works for Grazia It and has a great street style blog
Karen Blanchard of Where Did U Get That and WDUGT street style is a Brit living in New York who has been featured in Vogue, shot a video with H&M prior to the Versace for H&M fashion.
The Sassy Peach who in addition to her personal style is also a stylist in Chicago
There's also GabiFresh.
There are a few, the may not get as much as exposure as their caucasian and asian bloggers but they exist.
Hi Love!!! It's Sheena Hope from Ely! Didn't know that you have a fashion blog. I love it girl, kudos!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog at -fashionplusstyle.com
I was wondering the same thing about black bloggers. There are many of us out here but we are not seeming to get picked up as much as other bloggers. Maybe there is something we don't know about.
There is one that I love-her name is GABIFRESH. She was actually MTV"S first Twitter Jockey-but she had a very large blog following before that. Check her out at gabifresh.com
Love Ya Hun!
I have been thinking the same thing!!! I am so glad that you are doing this.
